On September 24, 1910, city jail prisoner R. L. Ladovich murders Seattle Police Officer Matthias H. Rude (1865-1910).
Officer Rude and another officer were supervising a work detail of 30 prisoners from the city stockade. Prisoner R. L. Ladovich attacked Officer Rude with a mattock, striking him in the head.
Ladovich was serving a sentence for theft. Officer Rude died that same day.
