On September 24, 1958, Clark College President Dwight C. Baird issues student registration No. 1,000 to sophomore David Skeans of Vancouver the week school opens for fall quarter on its new campus. It is the first time in the school's 25-year history that enrollment of full-time day students hits four digits. At the former campus the previous fall quarter, full-time daytime enrollment was 785.
In addition to Skeans and the other daytime students at the new, sprawling, park-like campus, which comprises 101 acres and is still Clark’s home, the evening program enrolled about 1,200 that fall. “That figure puts the school well on the way toward surpassing last year’s year-long accumulative enrollment of 3,500,” The (Vancouver) Columbian quoted a college official as saying.The state Board of Community and Technical Colleges reports that as of fall quarter 2007, Clark was the third-largest state community college, behind Bellevue and Spokane Falls, based on total head count.
