Seattle's Front Door
Welcome to the Port of Seattle's tour of the Central Waterfront. Seattle's modern history began in 1852 with the construction of the first pier at the foot of Yesler Way, and maritime commerce has shaped its economy ever since. Beginning in 1911, the Port of Seattle has guided maritime development in the interest of all of the people of King County.
This guided tour offers historical snapshots of major piers and sections of the downtown harbor. Click on any pier for its story, or click "Historical Overview" for a brief essay tracing the harbor's evolution from canoes to cruise ships.
This tour was curated by Paul Dorpat, edited by Walt Crowley, produced by Chris Goodman, and sponsored by the Port of Seattle.
